On September 15, the orientation for 2022 CIM postgraduate freshmen was held in Shiing-Shen Building. Attendees included the Director of CIM Chengming Bai, Vice Director Huitao Feng and Aifang Chen, representatives of CIM's teaching faculty, administrative staff and student leaders, and all postgraduate freshmen enrolled in 2022. The orientation was hosted by Guoping Feng.

In 2022, a total of 29 postgraduate students were admitted by Chern Institute of Mathematics (CIM), including 16 master students and 13 PhD students. The orientation started with impressive self-introductions made by the newcomers. Then Prof. Chengming Bai extended a warm welcome to the students and introduced the long history of CIM. He encouraged the students to take an active part in all kinds of academic activities and actively communicate with their advisors while cooperating with the university's epidemic prevention measures. Prof. Huitao Feng expected the students to keep the initiative in study and gave them advice about the future school life. Aifang Chen introduced the institute's administrative system and the back office services. Advisors in attendance communicated with the students on their own research fields. Representatives of administrative staff explained their work and discussed with the students.  

Each freshman was given a CIM brochure and two books, the Biography of S.S.Chern and Chern Shiing-Shen and Chinese Mathematics, in the hope that the new students could know more about CIM, Professor Shiing-Shen Chern and Chinese mathematics. After the orientation, heads and some teachers of the institute visited students' new offices and discussed about the design optimization.

The orientation helped to facilitate communication between teachers and students, enabled the students to adapt quickly to their new surroundings and encouraged them to look to Prof. Shiing-Shen Chern as a role model—keep working hard and make the most of every minute.
