On November 22, the first Shiing-Shen Chern Class Symposium was held. Jiangong You, winner of the 2024 TWAS Award in Mathematics and professor at Chern Institute of Mathematics, was invited to attend and share his mathematics learning and researching experience with students of the 2020 Shiing-Shen Chern Class. The symposium was presided over by Professor Longyun Ding, dean of the School of Mathematical Sciences, Nankai University.

Professor Jiangong You introduced the latest developments in Hamiltonian dynamical systems and the frontiers of mathematics, and shared his experience of mathematics research. The students actively discussed with Professor You on their study, research activities, international communications and graduates' employment.      

Professor Jiangong You has long been engaged in research on Hamiltonian dynamical systems and its applications. His works have been published in renowned journals such as Invent. Math., Duke Math.J, Ann ENS, GAFA and PRL. He was invited to deliver a 45-minute lecture at the 28th International Congress of Mathematicians, and awarded the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, the Outstanding Young Scholar Award of Hong Kong Qiu Shi Science and Technologies Foundation, the First Prize of National Award for Science and Technology Progress in Universities and Colleges, and the Second Prize of National Award for Natural Sciences.

The School of Mathematical Sciences will continue to invite professors recognized in fields of mathematics to attend the future Shiing-Shen Chern Class Symposiums after this very first one being successfully held, with the aim of introducing the development trends of mathematics and providing guidance to students on their study and research.
