On December 2, Song Jiang, Applied mathematician, fellow of the European Academy of Sciences (EurASc), researcher of Institute of Applied Physics and Computational Mathematics, Beijing, Doctoral supervisor, was invited to deliver a Chern Lecture on "Partial differential equations: Functions, characteristics and analysis" for NKU teachers and students. The lecture was chaired by Prof.Chengming Bai, the Director of Chern Institute of Mathematics, Nankai University.

After the lecture, Prof. Song Jiang had discussions with the teachers and students and answered their questions. The lecture gave the teachers and students a more comprehensive understanding of partial differential equations, and deeply realized that partial differential equations are a bridge between foundation and application. There are many challenging problems, and experts in computational mathematics and analysis have a lot to do.
