During the 2024 Qingming Festival, at 10 a.m. on April 4, a tomb-sweeping activity was held by Chern Institute of Mathematics (CIM) and attended by CIM's staff and students, in hornor of Professor Shiing-Shen Chern and to pass on his spirit of patriotism and scientific exploration. (Qingming Festival, also known as Tomb-Sweeping Day, is a traditional Chinese festival. It falls on April 4 this year.)

The activity was hosted by Vice Director of CIM Aifang Chen. Before it was started, the representatives of staff and students cleaned the Memorial Tombstone of Shiing-Shen Chern, then flowers were presented. After bowing to the tombstone, people stood in silence for one minute to commemorate Prof. Chern.

Prof. Chengming Bai, vice president of Nankai University and director of CIM, made a speech at the activity. Prof. Yiming Long, member of Chinese Academy of Sciences and professor of CIM, told people of Prof. Chern's experience after returning to China to develop China's mathematics. A representative of CIM's students expressed their deep remembrance and respect to Prof. Chern.

Carrying forward Prof. Chern's spirit, CIM will spare no effort to make new achievements and contribution to making China a leading math nation!
