On September 12, the Orientation Meeting for 2024 Postgraduate Freshmen was held in Shiing-Shen Building.
Attendees included NKU Vice President and CIM Director Chengming Bai, CIM Vice Director Aifang Chen, Doctoral Supervisors Chaofeng Zhu and Liwei Yu, Director of CIM's Administration Office Yantao Zhang and Vice Director Hongqin Li, 27 postgraduate freshmen and representatives of the student cadres. The orientation meeting was presided over by Guoping Feng.
This year, a total of 27 postgraduate students were admitted to CIM, including 16 master students and 11 PhD students. The orientation meeting started with impressive self-introductions by the newcomers, who were given a warm welcome by the faculty and staff members at the meeting. Then Professor Chengming Bai encouraged the students to take an active part in all kinds of academic activities, actively communicate with their advisors, and learn more about CIM and Professor Shiing-Shen Chern. He suggested that it's as important to maintain physical fitness through regular exercise and a balanced diet as to study hard. The doctoral supervisors exchanged their ideas about their research fields with the students. The Vice Director Aifang Chen made a brief introduction about CIM's administrative system and regulations.
After the meeting, the freshmen were shown around the CIM History Gallery and watched the documentary Taking The Long View — The Life of Shiing-Shen Chern.
Helping to facilitate communication between teachers and students, the orientation meeting is believed to enable the students to adapt quickly to the new surroundings and encourage them to become better selves.
