Brief Introduction:

In this article, Professor Zixin Hou gave his reflections on the commemoration of the 110th anniversary of the birth of Professor Shiing-Shen Chern. He believes that to develop good mathematics is an important practice of keeping in mind Professor Chern's expectation of making China a leading math nation. Recalling the words about good mathematics that had been mentioned by Professor Chern for many times, Professor Hou put forward his own understanding and advice: generally speaking, good mathematical studies are both profound and extensive. It's necessary for every mathematical researcher to have the ability of identifying good mathematics; and for young scholars who have gained enough competence, just like what Professor Chern said, "It's worth trying to be ambitious to open up new research fields."
